Ahh, the Iron hands. The whiniest loyalist chapter 'Blame everyone else except yourselves' is there motto, and constantly let Imperial worlds fall 'Because they are weak' is their excuse but I think the real reason is that they honestly can't really do shit and leave the heavy lifting to REAL space marines like the Imperial Fists, Salamanders or Black Templar's. I can't recall a single time when these guys have been of any actual use to the Imerpium. If their not team killing guardsman there either whining about how it's everyone else fault that Ferus is dead even though the damn idiot went crazy and tried to solo three full strength legions with their own respective primarchs. And the whole 'The Flesh Is Weak' thing? Yeah, go say that to the Fucking Tyranid Swarmlord and watch as it laughs as it then uses your metal ass as a condom as it smash fucks your oh-so precious dreadnaughts.
Seriously, fuck the Iron hands, their only second to the Dark Angles in terms of utter faggotry and team-killing.
I admit, the Iron Hands aren't known for charity *cough cough Battle of Columnus cough cough* but if you read the Clan Raukaan codex supplement, they do move away from that concept ever since Kardan Stronos came along. And also, the Gorgon's Fury (a Predator battle tank) took down a 30 ft tall bio Titan. I rest my case.
One of my favourite legions, the Iron Hands sacrificed so much at the begining of the the Horus Heresy and they are still as loyal as they ever were, they have never even once considered changing sides....and thye are right to look down on legions like the Dark Angels IMO the Dark Angels made many stupid mistakes, some of which could have been avoided.
In the Dark Angels defense, they were deployed to warzones across the galaxy (as far from Terra as Horus could reasonably command). Then they come home to half the legion renouncing the Emporer's will. You've got to give the Dark Angels credit for rebounding back into the fight as fast as they did.
This picture is very well done on a technical level (here comes the big "but") BUT, an Iron Hand without bionics is like a salamander without coal black skins, a space wolf that doesn't look like a viking, or a white scar who doesn't look mongolian. It just isn't convincing
Not all Iron Hands has massive amounts ov bionics, Only Nocturne marines had coal skin because ov environmental factors, not all Space Wolves are red headed giants with huge beards and axes, and only White Scares from Chogoris looked like Mongols, they recruited from allot ov other places during the crusade.
Considering that the principle belief of the Iron Hands chapter is that "The flesh is weak", and that each Iron Hand marine has a psychological urge to mutilate their bodies to make room for more bionics, it is safe to assume that there would be VERY few Iron Hands with minimal bionics.
Also, considering that this post 40k era, there is really really no point in bringing up facts that only pertain to pre heresy marines. In the current timeline, Salamanders only come from Nocturne, White Scars only come from Chogoris, etc.
The point of my previous comment was to point out a lost opportunity on an otherwise amazing piece of work.
The Salamanders fortress-monastery is on Prometheus not Nocturne, which means not all Salamanders would be ashen since they are recruited from Prometheus too. Yes, the Iron Hands do love their bionics, but that does not mean ALL ov them have vast visible amounts ov them. Though I do agree that those things could have enhanced the image the chapter stereotypes are not universal.
Im pretty sure one of the things about the iron hands is that most have their left hands replaced with Bionics shortly after becoming a battle brother. As far as I've read in the books including the salamanders series all Salamanders have onyx black skin and glowing red eyes. Space Marine traits largely come from the Gene Seed and are not dependant on where the marine was originally from.
